Amidst the rising tensions between the political parties of Odhisa and West Bengal, the news of two of the prominent leaders from both states marrying each other has gone wild. It is being reported that Trinamul Congress’ Mahua Moitra and Biju Janata Dal’s Pinaki Misra have tied knots in a ceremony held in Germany 14 days ago.
The couple has evaded the public eye and married each other in close settings in a private ceremony. A senior leader from the TMC has reported that the pair has secretly tied the knot in Berlin, however there is no confirmation from both Moitra and Misra’s ends as of yet.
Moitra, a two-time elected member of Lok Sabha from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, was born in Assam in 1974. She began her professional career first as an investment banker but later switched careers and entered politics in 2010 and joined Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. She was first elected from the Krishnanagar constituency in 2019 for the Lok Sabha and was re-elected last year (2024).
Pinaki Misra, who is 15 years older than Moitra, was born in 1959 in Cuttack, Odisha. He is a very seasoned politician and a well reputed lawyer in the Supreme Court. He holds degrees in History from Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College and Law from Delhi University. Misra is nearing 30 years in politics and started his political career in 1996 with the Congress party. Misra later joined the Biju Janata Dal and has since been elected to the parliament multiple times.
Although the couple has maintained privacy about their marital life, such an event where two prominent leaders from different parties have gotten together is a matter of public interest. Now the people wait for confirmation from both senior politicians regarding their marriage.
