On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of State hosted an event titled “From Bouncers to Boundaries: An Evening to Celebrate the Men’s T20 World Cup and Cricket in the USA Cricket World Cup.” This reception marked a significant milestone as the United States hosted T20 World Cup matches for the first time, including highly anticipated India-Pakistan and India-US matches in New York.
Richard Verma, the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, expressed his excitement, highlighting the growing embrace of cricket in the U.S. He emphasized the sport’s global reach and Major League Cricket’s flourishing presence in the country. With over 200,000 players participating in more than 400 leagues across the U.S., cricket’s popularity continues to rise.
Verma also mentioned that cricket will officially become an Olympic sport during the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Exciting times ahead for cricket enthusiasts in the United States!
