On the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, Chintan Patel, Executive Director of Indian American Impact, released the following statement:
“Twenty-five years ago, nearly 3,000 people went to work, boarded a flight, or answered a call, and never came home. Thousands of first responders ran into buildings everyone else was running out of.
Our communities had already known hate for how we look or pray, but 9/11 gave it new force. Surging right now, that hate is costing lives and leaving us with a second grief we still carry.
But what we remember most today is what showed up in that moment: compassion, and people looking out for each other, no questions asked. That’s the country we’re still fighting for, and the America we still believe in.”
Indian American Impact is a national organization that elevates the voices of Indian and South Asian Americans to ensure that every level of government represents us and our values. Impact works to mobilize, engage and elect South Asians in an effort to build a world in which all Americans have the opportunity to thrive.
