The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced a major overhaul of its national organisation under party president Nitin Nabin, bringing former Union minister Smriti Irani back into a key organisational role as a national general secretary. The reshuffle also gives prominent positions to veteran leaders including Vasundhara Raje and Ram Madhav, while placing greater emphasis on women and regional representation.
Irani, who lost the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general election, has been assigned responsibility for Uttar Pradesh as part of her new role. Her return marks a significant comeback to the BJP’s organisational leadership and comes ahead of crucial electoral contests, including the upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls.
The new team includes 13 national vice-presidents and eight national general secretaries, alongside 16 national secretaries. Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje has been appointed national vice-president, while former BJP general secretary and RSS national executive member Ram Madhav has also returned as a national vice-president. Baijayant Jay Panda is among the other leaders appointed to the vice-presidential team.
Women have received a prominent presence in the revamped organisation. Six women feature among the 13 national vice-presidents, while the overall national office-bearer team includes 10 women. The appointments are being viewed as an effort to strengthen the party’s organisational reach and broaden representation across regions and communities.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has also been appointed national treasurer. The reshuffle brings together experienced leaders and newer faces as the BJP prepares for elections in five states in the coming months.
The appointments underline Nabin’s effort to build a national team combining organisational experience, regional representation and electoral focus as the BJP prepares for its next phase of political challenges.
