The Supreme Court has taken strong action against a controversial chapter in an NCERT textbook for Class 8 students. The chapter talks about corruption in the judiciary, which has upset the top court. It ordered NCERT to give the names of everyone who wrote and approved it.

In a sharp order, a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant banned the Social Science book across India and abroad. The court asked for a full list of the National Syllabus Committee members and the Textbook Development Team. It also demanded records of all meetings where the chapter was discussed.

The court called the content hurtful and showed deep anger. It issued notices to the Education Ministry Secretary and NCERT Director for possible contempt of court. All copies must be seized, and no online sharing is allowed.

The chapter, titled “The Role of the Judiciary in Our Society,” differs from old versions. Earlier books explained court structure simply. Now, it covers problems like corruption and delays, which the court sees as an attack on judges.

NCERT chief Professor Dinesh Prashad Saklani faces heat. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the government respects the judiciary and regrets the mistake. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants those responsible held accountable, sources said.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta defended NCERT in court, but the judges were not happy. “Heads must roll,” they declared, vowing a full probe. The next hearing will review the documents.
