Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office is planning to shift from the historic South Block to the modern Seva Teerth complex, marking the first such relocation since Independence in 1947. This move under the Central Vista project ends an era of colonial-era workspaces, replacing them with open-plan designs to foster collaboration and efficiency. Officials emphasize the transition symbolizes a shift from authority-driven rule to service-oriented governance.

Seva Teerth integrates key institutions into one campus for streamlined decision-making. Seva Teerth One houses the PMO with open floors, cultural motifs blending heritage and minimalism, and advanced tech like encrypted systems and earthquake resistance. Seva Teerth Two already hosts the Cabinet Secretariat since September 2025, while Seva Teerth Three will accommodate the National Security Council Secretariat and NSA Ajit Doval’s office, eliminating prior coordination delays from scattered locations.

A highlight is ‘India House,’ a new conference facility for bilateral meetings, global summits, and press events—capabilities absent in South Block. Built at Rs 1,200 crore, the complex features ceremonial rooms for dignitaries, cybersecurity networks, and secure video links, contrasting South Block’s hierarchical corridors and retrofitted tech.

The rename from ‘Executive Enclave’ to Seva Teerth underscores “seva” (service) as governance’s core. Post-relocation, North and South Blocks will become the Yug Yugin Bharat Sangrahalaya museum, opening colonial sites to the public.
