On September 14, 2025, the Gujarati Samaj of New York (GSNY) hosted the 34th Health and Wellness awareness Expo at Fresh Meadows, New York. For the past 50 years, the Gujarati Samaj of New York (GSNY) has been preserving and promoting Gujarati culture in the United States. Over the years, this annual event has been a cornerstone for our neighbors, offering free health screenings, nutrition guidance, fitness demonstrations, and access to local resources while bringing the community together.
In appreciation of strong community work of GSNY, NYC mayor Eric Adams visited the health expo and emphasized the importance of prevention over treatment, aligning with the GSNY health committee’s mission—prevention is better than cure. Dilip Chauhan from the NYC Mayor’s Office for International Affairs and Dr. Raj Bhayani, Federation of Indian Physicians Associations and a prominent leader in the community, introduced Mayor and highlighted accomplishments of Eric Adams in healthcare over last five years. Dilip Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Innovation accompanied Mayor for the event.
The health fair offered a variety of free health screenings, educational workshops, and resources for the entire family. Attendees had the opportunity to receive complimentary services and information, including: screening by providers, blood tests, EKG, eye exam, Nutrition counseling, acupuncture, Holistic medicine, Ayurvedic consultation, Body fat analysis, Medicare information, organ donation information, etc. Medical services include Internal medicine, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Pain management, Rheumatology, Hematology-Oncology, dentistry, Physical therapy, Podiatry, Endocrinology, and Urology. Breast cancer has been on the rise, making this screening at the health fair especially important. Over the years, many women have benefited from this service, and GSNY remains committed to continuing it. More than thirty mammograms were done during this health fair. More than 150 members took advantage of the health fair.

Volunteers of all ages played a key role in the event, assisting with registration, guiding attendees, helping with blood pressure checks, and conducting medical screenings. This hands-on experience allowed them to contribute to the community while gaining valuable skills and knowledge in healthcare and services.
