The newly-launched iPhone 17 has caused a ruckus in the world all around with everyone trying to figure out how much working hours it would take for them to afford the new model. India has topped the global charts for the number of hours of work needed to afford iPhone 17 as an average Indian worker would require to put in 967 hours at the country’s mean wage to be able to afford the device.
According to the study conducted by Statista, India sits right at the top of the list around the world in the number of work hours required to afford an iPhone. India is followed by Vietnam who stand second in the list with a huge drop of 598 hours required for an average worker to get their hands on an iPhone 17.
The base model of the new iPhone 17 costs roughly around $939 in India, which is surprisingly lower than the price of most of the countries listed on the list, including Turkey, where it costs $1,885 to get an iPhone 17. But despite the huge price differences an average worker in Turkey only requires half the number of working hours to get an iPhone with just 461 hours. This highlights the stark difference in the income levels between the two nations.
The issue of this heavy pay disparity is highlighted even further when India is compared to a country like Switzerland, where a combination of low pricing and high income has made it the only country with 17 hours of work needed to get an iPhone 17.
While talking about iPhone 17 Pro Max, it would take a worker 1,749 hours to get their hands on the top model in India which costs Rs 1,34,999, in India. It is nearly double their work hours required to buy an iPhone 17.
