Homebound, the latest feature from acclaimed director Neeraj Ghaywan, made a powerful impression at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film, starring Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa along with Janhvi Kapoor, earned the distinction of Second Runner-Up for the prestigious International People’s Choice Award presented by Rogers.
Premiering to a packed house at Roy Thomson Hall, Homebound received a standing ovation, signaling its emotional resonance with festivalgoers. The story centers on two childhood friends from a rural village in northern India who aspire to join the police force. As they navigate systemic barriers, political tensions, and personal hardships, their bond is tested in profound ways.
Blending the emotional depth of Bollywood social drama with striking cinematography and nuanced performances, Homebound delivers a compelling portrait of friendship and resilience. Lead actors Jethwa and Khatter bring remarkable sensitivity to their roles, grounding the film in authenticity and emotional complexity. Their portrayals lend the story a quiet power, even as it navigates moments of heartbreak and injustice.
The 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), held from September 4 to 14, concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating standout films from around the world. A total of 12 awards were presented, including the Platform Award—TIFF’s sole juried prize—and the highly anticipated People’s Choice Awards, sponsored by Rogers.
This year marked the debut of the International People’s Choice Award, recognizing global audience favorites, alongside the newly introduced Short Cuts Award for Best Animated Short Film.
