TVS Motor Company officially unveiled the NTORQ 150 Hyper Sport scooter on Thursday in Chennai, marking a significant milestone as India’s first hyper sport scooter. Priced at an ex-showroom cost of Rs 1,19,000, the vehicle is aimed primarily at Gen Z consumers, highlighting TVS’ focus on youthful, tech-savvy riders.
The scooter is powered by a 149.7cc engine and is available in two variants: the NTORQ 150 and the NTORQ 150 TFT cluster. Both variants showcase six distinct color palettes, catering to a wide range of aesthetic preferences. Production is set to take place at TVS’ Mysuru plant to meet anticipated demand.
Aniruddha Haldar, senior vice-president and head of commuter & EV business and corporate brand at TVS Motor Company, addressed GST rationalization during the launch event. He noted that dealers could carry forward input tax credits and expressed that both dealers and retailers welcomed the GST changes. The company operates on lean stock margins, minimizing the risk of leftover stock.
Investment-wise, TVS revealed that the capital expenditure on the NTORQ 150 was Rs 100 crore, aligning with the Rs 100 crore spent on research and development as disclosed in its annual report. The company’s market share in India currently stands at around 20%, and the new scooter will be distributed through a network of 6,000 dealers countrywide.
Regarding concerns about the rare earth magnet supply crisis, Haldar mentioned ongoing government efforts to resolve the issue. However, companies, including TVS, are continuously exploring alternative sourcing strategies on a daily basis to mitigate potential impacts on production.
The launch of NTORQ 150 Hyper Sport underlines TVS Motor Company’s commitment to innovation and catering to evolving market demands with technologically advanced and stylish mobility solutions.
