India’s upcoming clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 is a hot topic in media discussions in both nations. Adding to the drama, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has passed on some controversial comments, alleging that some former Indian players are trying to assert their nationality. He stated that players are trying to prove that they are Indians while still commentating in the Asia Cup.

“There are plenty of issues in India. Some people reach the houses of players and threaten to burn them down. Certain players are still trying to prove they are Indian. They have been displaying this ever since being born. Now they are doing commentary in the Asia Cup,” Afridi said

Afridi has always been prone to spitting venom against India and Indian cricketers also revisited the World Championship of Legends incident where Indian players refused to play against Pakistan following the political distress. He took a veiled dig at Shikhar Dhawan calling him a ‘bad egg’ and stating that he had an ulterior motive and posted about not playing in the match even when his captain Yuvraj Singh told him not to.

“I have always said that cricket should go on; it has always helped in making the relations better between the two countries. In England, people had bought tickets to see the WCL match, and the players had practised. Then you didn’t play. What was the thinking? I just can’t understand,” Afridi said.

“Agar mai naam lunga na iss waqt, toh wo beechare phass jayenge (If I name the players, then they will be dragged into a controversy). The player I referred to as a bad egg, his captain also told him, ‘If you don’t want to play, then don’t play. Just don’t tweet on social media.’ But that said, the player had come with an ulterior motive. That is why he was a bad egg,” he added.
