The Yamuna River is soaring well-above the danger mark following the non-stop rainfall in the region. In order to prevent the damage from the raging river, this Thursday, on September 4th, relief camps were set up in several low-lying areas of Delhi, especially the areas near Mayur Vihar Phase-I.
As per the official data that has been put forth, the water level of the Yamuna river at the Old Railway Bridge of Delhi had reached 207.47 metres at 5:00 am in the morning. The water level then went to 207.48 metres at 6:00 am and when recorded at 7:00 am it was revealed that the level had remained the same for the next hour. According to officials, the water level remained static at 207.47 metres for three hours between 2:00 am and 5:00 am.
After the heavy and continuous rains there has been a flood alert issued for the capital. In the Civil Lines area of Delhi, cars and bikes were seen submerged with heavy water logging. Along the Bela Road, the water logging was so heavy that the buildings were flooded in the area. Many parts of the Kashmiri Gate also went underwater after Yamuna overflowed in some parts reaching the neighborhood.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and district authorities were working tirelessly to secure the safety of citizens in the flood affected areas. People living in severely affected areas such as Yamuna Bazar and Yamuna Khadar, were relocated to other areas.
In a post on X, NDRF India wrote, “NDRF teams are actively conducting operations in flood-affected areas in coordination with Civil Adm and agencies. Till now: Rescued – 25 persons, Evacuated – 1171 persons & 29 livestock to safer locations.”
Many of the major roads and areas across the city have remained waterlogged due to the constant showers. Roads like Krishna Menon Marg, Feroz Shah Kotla Road, and Arjangarh have remained shut and have halted the traffic in several areas.
