Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Japan for the India-Japan Annual Summit 2025. In this summit PM Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba have both agreed to deepen their human resource cooperation. They have set a target of over five lakh personnel exchanges in the coming five years. Along with that they have also agreed on the transfer of 50,000 skilled professionals and potential talents from India to Japan.

As per the reports, the Ministry of External Affairs of India this Friday, on August 29th, has announced an initiative that is aiming to boost several programs for both nations. They will boost joint research and commercialisation, strengthen skill development, and expand cultural and educational exchanges across the nations.

“Tapping economically beneficial complementarities for both Japan, facing a manpower shortage including IT personnel, and India, aiming to boost skill development and strengthen its manufacturing sector,” the release stated.

It was also reported that as a part of their action plan, both India and Japan have agreed to enhance the flow of highly skilled professionals. Japanese companies will also move forward with special missions to universities in India in various different fields including semiconductors and artificial intelligence. They will also conduct various surveys of employment practices in order to improve the placement and retention of Indian professionals in Japan.

They will also be focusing on skill development on both ends. Japanese companies will also be providing support for vocational training under the INPACT initiative. Also, the newly launched “India–Japan Talent Bridge”, which is an internship and job-matching scheme, will be helping the Indian students and professionals connect with Japanese employers. It was stated that the state governments in India will work with the NSDC to facilitate training and placement.
