Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, experienced a strong opening but has seen a sharp decline in box office collections over the first week. Released on August 14, 2025, the film recorded ₹65 crore on its opening day but then faced a steady drop in revenues during the subsequent weekdays.
By day 8, Coolie earned an estimated ₹6.25 crore in India, down from ₹7.5 crore on day 7. As of this point, the film’s total box office collection stood at ₹229.75 crore in India across all versions—including Tamil (the original), Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada dubbed versions. The Hindi version alone showed around 10.64% occupancy on August 21, highlighting a moderate audience turnout.
The film’s first week ended with a net collection of approximately ₹222 crore. While the weekend and opening day performances were impressive, weekday collections declined sharply—₹12 crore on Monday, ₹9.5 crore on Tuesday, and further down to ₹7.5 crore on Wednesday, reflecting a typical midweek slowdown but also signaling less sustained audience interest than initially expected.
Coolie faced stiff competition from Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, released on the same day. Despite the competition, Coolie managed to lead in overall revenue, but the momentum slowed considerably midweek. Occupancy rates for Coolie in Tamil theaters fluctuated from about 14.69% in morning shows to 20.09% at night on its release day, with slightly lower numbers in Hindi and Telugu versions across the week.
Featuring an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Aamir Khan (cameo), and Shruti Haasan, Coolie was highly promoted but mixed reviews and average word-of-mouth impacted sustained box office growth. The film concluded its first week with new lows in daily earnings compared to expectations but still secured a hefty sum reflecting Rajinikanth’s strong star power.
