In these past few weeks, the rumour mill around Indian cricket has been going wild with reports coming out one after another. Shreyas Iyer has been one of the names that has been a regular in the reports that have come out and even the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is shocked by the rumours going around.

This Thursday, on August 21st, after the whole controversy surrounding Iyer getting snubbed from India’s squad for Asia Cup 2025, rumours had come out hinting that Iyer might be taking over the reins from Rohit Sharma as the Captain of Indian ODI team. It was also stated that the BCCI is keen on moving on from Rohit as the leader of the side with previous reports suggesting that the legendary cricketer is not part of their plans going forward.

Addressing the wild rumours, the secretary of BCCI, Devajit Saikia was shocked and said that he had no idea about any such news and completely shut down the rumours. Saikia said, “That’s news to me. There have been no such discussions.”

Iyer’s name has been popping up in such rumours ever since he was snubbed off the Indian T20 squad for the upcoming Asia Cup despite stellar performances across domestic tournaments and the IPL. The Chief Selector of the Indian Cricket Team, Ajit Agarkar in the press conference, while announcing the squad, highlighted the unfortunate circumstances and stated that the right-hand batter would have to wait for his chance.

“With regards to Shreyas, it’s not his fault, nor is it ours. It’s just that you can pick 15, and at the moment you’ll have to wait for his chance,” Agarkar said.
