Shubman Gill was heavily doubted before the start of the test series against England as he didn’t have great numbers outside of India. He was also the newly appointed captain as well as the new No. 4 of the test side so he was tasked to fill the large holes left by the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Gill finished the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy as the leading run-scorer with 754 runs to his name with an average of 75.40 and 4 hundred along with a double hundred to his name. Gill, with this series, smashed the record of highest total runs scored by an Indian captain in a Test series and overall, he ranked just behind Don Bradman, who had scored 801 runs vs England.

Although Gill smashed a record-breaking series, still he dropped down four places to 13th spot in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters. The Indian Test Captain was at the 9th place in the rankings prior to the fifth and final Test at the Oval. However, the series decider didn’t go that well for Gill as he scored just 32 runs. This below par performance struck a huge blow to his rating point and he dropped out of the top 10 ICC Test batters.

On the other hand, on the back of their exceptional performance in The Oval Test, Indian fast-bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna gained their career-best ratings of 674 points and 368 points, respectively, in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowler Rankings.

This helped Siraj, the Man of the Match of the last test, climb 12 places to grab 15th spot on the rankings. His bowling partner, Krishna also took a huge jump of 25 spots and is now ranked at the 59th spot. The only centurion in the last test for India, Yashasvi Jaiswal also gained three spots to and entered into the top five for Test batters with 792 rating points.
