The animated mythological movie, Mahavatar Narsimha has turned its fortune on the box office. The movie went from struggling to find people to fill the seats in the theatre to becoming a sensation amongst the viewers. The movie opened to a mere Rs 1.35 crore on Day 1 but in just 10 days of its run at the box office has crossed the 67.25 crore mark in its Hindi version alone.

The success of the film seems so shocking because of the genre that it serves, the movie has defied all the expectations and has taken Indian animation to new heights. Animated films are mostly considered high risk projects in Indian cinema but Mahavatar Narsimha has changed the game with uncanny family footfalls and popularity amongst the masses.

As per the reports, the second weekend of the movie saw show after show going housefull in multiple cities even though other movies like Saiyaara were still doing good at the box office. Many theatres reported repeat viewings and near sold-out occupancy in many cities. What makes it more rare is the movie had little to no mainstream star power or promotional blitz.

The Hindi version of the movie opened with a modest Rs 1.35 crore on Day 1, which looked good considering it had no promotions. But slowly as the word spread around in the audience and families started filling up the seats, the movie started to take leaps. By the end of Week 1, the movie had earned Rs 32.45 crore, and by Day 10, that number have gone past Rs 67.25 crore.

Mahavatar Narsimha is an animated mythological movie based on Hindu mythology. The movie is based on the story of Prahlad, the devout child of the demon king Hiranyakashipu and the avatar of Lord Vishnu as Narsimha, a half-man and half-lion avatar born to protect his devotee and restore dharma in the world.

The story of the movie is a tale that many Indian children have heard during Holika Dahan or Holi celebrations. The movie depicts the epic tale in its own unique way with visuals that are beyond anything Indian animation has seen, setting high standards for the genre and emotional clarity which does justice to the epic story.
