There were rumours around Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor’s troubled marriage while they were married and long after they separated. Now, after the sudden death of the business tycoon last month on June 12th while playing a Polo match in the United Kingdom, the public scrutiny around their failed marriage has resurfaced.
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur got married 22 years ago in a high-profile wedding which garnered attention from everyone. But their marriage didn’t last forever as the couple after a decade of being together filed for a divorce in the year 2014, which was eventually settled in 2016. Just like their marriage their separation and divorce gained huge public attention as they both hurled serious allegations against each other.
Sunjay, a Businessman from Delhi, stated that the actress married him as a “rebound” after she had an ugly breakup with another Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan. The two actors were even supposed to get engaged but the ceremony was later called off.
The relationship between Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor was a well known affair in the industry and they were a famous couple in the early 2000s. Not even a year before her marriage with Sunjay, at Amitabh Bachchan’s 60th birthday party, it was announced that both Abhishek and Karisma will be engaged. However, the engagement fell through and Karisma went on to marry Sunjay in just a year.
Sunjay had even commented on how Karisma had been with him all these years only for his money and had married him in a rather calculated and clinical manner. He dismissed Karisma as an unsuitable wife and mother, even calling her the reason behind their eventual separation.
