India’s mobile phone exports surge 127 times in last decade

In the past decade India’s export market has grown exponentially and one of the main examples of that is the hike in the export of mobile phones. It was stated in the Parliament this Wednesday, on 23rd July, that export of mobile phones from India has increased by 127 times in the last decade to reach Rs 2 lakh crore.

The Minister of state for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, in a written reply to Lok Sabha, shared a data stating that the hike in export of mobile phones in India. The export which was Rs 1,500 crore a decade ago in 2014-15 has now grown exponentially and has reached Rs 2 lakh crore in financial year 2024-25.

The Minister has stated that the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for the Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing (LSEM) has grown to great heights and has had total investment of Rs 12,390 crore. He has also stated that they have generated additional employment of 1,30,330 direct jobs as of now.

“The PLI Scheme for LSEM has already attracted a cumulative investment of INR 12,390 crore, led to a cumulative production of Rs 8,44,752 crore with exports of Rs 4,65,809 crore and generated additional employment of 1,30,330 (direct jobs) till Jun’25,” the minister said.

Mr. Prasada credited the PLI scheme for LSEM for the growth seen in the manufacturing sector. He highlighted how India has now become a net exporter rather than being a net importer just some years back. India has now taken over the world becoming the second largest mobile manufacturing country

“PLI Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing has significantly impacted the mobile manufacturing sector in India particularly in transforming India from a net importer to a net exporter of mobile phones. Bharat is now the second largest mobile manufacturing country in the world,” the minister said.
