The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Maharashtra has decided to temporarily suspend the license of the widely known Cafe Goodluck situated in Pune. These steps were being taken by the administration after there were some complaints over hygiene issues and pieces of glass being found in people’s food.
The Joint Commissioner of the FDA, Suresh Annapure gave a statement on the whole fiasco this Sunday. He stated, “An inspection was conducted, during which some unhygienic conditions were found. We have suspended the eatery’s licence until further orders and necessary compliance.”
The whole matter came to the surface when a few days ago a video went viral which showed a glass piece in a customer’s order. A couple who were at Cafe Goodluck recorded the video claiming that they had found a glass piece in their Bun Muska. The video garnered traction on social media rapidly as the cafe is a very popular and well known eatery in the city.
As per the officials, the FDA quickly took notice of the viral video and reports of the alleged glass piece found in the food item and inspected the food joint. Aakash Jalagi was the customer who reported the incident to the agency responsible for protecting public health stating that the incident was a breach in consumer safety.
Jalagi said, “It was my weekly off, and I had planned a small date with my wife at FC Road. We went to Cafe Goodluck and ordered tea along with Bun Maska. When my wife took a bite, she felt a transparent, hard substance in her mouth. Initially, we thought it was ice, but on checking, we realised it was a piece of glass. It could have caused serious internal injuries had she swallowed it.”
Kasim Irani, the owner of the cafe has confirmed the incident and has claimed that the loaf they used for preparing Bun Maska is sourced from an external bakery. They have apologised to the troubled customer and even waived off their bill. However, the customer has alleged that the incident wasn’t handled properly.
