Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister of India, has made his stance clear at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Meet. He has refused to sign the joint statement claiming that he is not satisfied with the language of the document stating that it doesn’t mention the horrific terror attacks in Pahalgam. The document however mentioned the Balochistan struggle, tactically blaming India for the unrest.
A Defence Ministry source while talking about the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Meet said, “India is not satisfied with the language of the joint document. There was no mention of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, there was mention of the incidents that happened in Pakistan, so India refused to sign the joint declaration, and there is no joint communique either.”
Rajnath Singh is currently in China for the SCO Defence Ministry’s meeting. The meeting was attended by the Defence Ministers of the nations – Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. They all met up there to discuss the issues related to regional and national security.
The Indian Defence Minister stood on the stage and addressed that the world can’t look for peace while terrorism continues to exist. He stated that those who support terrorism should bear some consequences in the future. He also took a shot at Pakistan without taking their name stating some countries use cross-border terrorism as a policy and breed terrorists in their soil.
“Peace and prosperity cannot co-exist with terrorism and proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction in the hands of non-state actors and terror groups. Dealing with these challenges requires decisive action. It is imperative that those who sponsor, nurture and utilise terrorism for their narrow and selfish ends must bear the consequences. Some countries use cross-border terrorism as an instrument of policy and provide shelter to terrorists. There should be no place for such double standards. SCO should not hesitate to criticise such nations,” Mr. Singh said.
