India has imposed several anti-dumping duties on some of the chemicals from China. As per reports, India has imposed these duties on four Chinese companies so far in June. This is being done to help the companies based in India to grow in the market. Along with that the anti-dumping duties help these companies to safeguard them from unfairly priced imports from China.

It is being reported that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Department of Revenue has imposed the anti-dumping duty on the import of four chemicals from China for 5 years. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) had made recommendations to impose these duties after which the authorities officially imposed five restrictions.

The four Chinese chemicals on which the anti-dumping duties were imposed included PEDA (which is used in herbicide); Acetonitrile (which is used in the pharma sector); Vitamin -A Palmitate, and Insoluble Sulphur.

The government has stated in their notification that the herbicide chemical PEDA will face the anti-dumping duty ranging from Rs.1,305.6 to Rs. 2017.9 per tonne. On the chemical Acetonitrile, which is imported from China, Russia and Taiwan, the anti-dumping duty will be up to Rs. 481 per tonne.

The government has also done the same on Vitamin – A Palmitate which is a chemical that is imported from China, Switzerland and the European Union. The government has imposed an anti-dumping duty up to ₹20.87 per kilogram duty on it as well. And lastly on the import of Insoluble Sulphur the government has decided to put an anti-dumping duty of up to ₹358 per tonne. This chemical is used in the tyre industry and is imported from China and Japan.

These anti-dumping duties are generally imposed by the countries to make sure that the industries from the domestic market don’t suffer due to the increase in cheap imports. India has imposed these duties under the multilateral regime of the Geneva-based World Trade Organisation (WTO).
