The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to take stern action against Air India and has notified them to terminate 3 of their employees. The decision was taken on Saturday, June 21st on the basis of clear reports of safety concerns and lapses by the team.

This decision comes after Ahmedabad crash in which Air India flight took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport for London and crashed in Ahmedabad just 32 secs after it took off. The crash resulted in the loss of 270 lives marking it as one of the biggest tragedies in India.

As per the reports the direct orders from the DGCA have asked Air India to undertake “internal disciplinary proceedings” against the three employees who are under scrutiny. The airlines have been told to remove them from any roles or responsibility that ends up around crew scheduling and rostering.

Air India have responded to the orders of DGCA and have stated that they will make sure that there is full commitment from their end towards abiding to the safety protocols and standard practices.

“We acknowledge the regulator’s directive and have implemented the order. In the interim, the company’s Chief Operations Officer will provide direct oversight to the Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC). Air India is committed to ensuring that there is total adherence to safety protocols and standard practices,” Air India said.

Earlier the Chief Executive Officer and the Managing Director of Air India, Campbell Wilson gave a statement indicating that their aircrafts are deemed safe. He also ensured that the company had also completed precautionary checks that the DGCA had asked them to do.

The official statement by Campbell Wilson reads, “Have our aircraft been deemed safe? Yes. We have completed the additional precautionary checks on our operating Boeing 787 fleet as requested by the DGCA, who have publicly declared that they meet required standards.”
