Air India announces 15% cut on international widebody flights

Six days after the horrific Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Air India has finally made an announcement addressing the tragic plane crash. The airline announced that they will be reducing its international services on widebody aircraft by 15% for the upcoming weeks. The cut will begin from 20th June and as far as the reports suggest it will go on till at least mid-July.

The Airline expressed their deep regret and compassion towards all the lives that were lost in the tragic plane crash. There were 241 people that lost their lives and the airline shared their hearts with their family. They also stated that they consider all those who were affected through the crash as their extended family and are with them in complete solidarity during these dire times.

The statement said, “Air India remains in mourning on the tragic loss of 241 passengers and crew members aboard flight AI171. Our hearts are with the families, loved ones, and communities affected by the accident.”

“Precious lives of passengers, crew on board and those on the ground at the crash site, have been lost. At Air India, we consider the family members of the deceased as part of our larger family and stand in complete solidarity with all of them, in these difficult times. In coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Government of Gujarat, Air India is putting all possible efforts to support the family members of the deceased and the injured.” the airline added.

The Directorate General of Aviation has added ‘Enhanced Safety Inspection’ which will be mandated across Air India’s Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft fleet. Air India has confirmed that 26 out of the 33 total aircrafts have been inspected and cleared for service.

“The remaining inspections are expected to be finalised in the coming days, providing reassurance about the safety measures and procedures followed by the airline,” Air India said in an official statement.
