The debate around Bollywood star Deepika Padukone’s eight-hour work shift and conflict of interest with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has spiked up opinions of many celebrities. The most recent one to join in is actress Surveen Chawla who has come in support of Deepika calling out the extreme work hours that movie stars have to work through. The whole fiasco started after Deepika walked out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film project ‘Spirit.’

Surveen was asked for her opinion regarding the ongoing debate around the topic as she expressed that the request for limited shift hours should’ve never been questioned in the first place. She emphasized that there are a lot of challenges one can face after becoming a mother and people should be more supportive of them.

“Being a new mother does come with a fair bit of restriction; there’s a lot to cater to when it comes to the child. We need to be mindful of that and try to support or accommodate them in a way that works for both the makers and the actor. I don’t think it’s something that should be questioned,” Surveen said.

Surveen expressed how she can’t even see a logical reason to entertain the topic. According to her, a woman shouldn’t have to compromise her passion just because she became a mother. In addition to that the industry should also cut down on such extreme work hours in general for everyone.

Surveen stated, “I don’t even want to entertain why that happened or why it should happen. It’s simply the need-and so be it. You can’t really take it away… How do I put it? I don’t think it’s fair to take away someone’s personal passion just because they’re a mother and might not be able to give enough time.”

“In general, too, this is the only industry with such extreme working hours. When we’re on shoot, it’s crazy… You’re gone for too long. There are days when you don’t see your family, your partner, your children, your relatives. And I don’t think that’s fair,” she added.
