Three terrorists have been killed in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian security forces. While three were killed, it was being reported that another terrorist might still be present in the area but no confirmation regarding him has been out. It was reported the terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba, the terrorist group responsible for many terrorist attacks in India.

After the armed forces received intelligence reports regarding the terrorists, they quickly launched a search and destroy operation. The Operation has been named Operation Keller, given its location. It is being reported that the encounter started at Kulgam and then shifted to forest areas of Kellar, Sophian. The Indian Security Forces and the Paramilitary forces were involved in the operation to take down these terrorists.

The Indian Army posted on its official social media handle, “On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a Rashtriya Rifles Unit, about the presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, Shopian, Indian Army launched a search and destroy operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists. Operation is in progress.”

The army has identified two of the three terrorists that were killed today. They both belonged to Lashkar-e-taiba while the third one is reported to be a Pakistani terrorist. Shahid Ahmed Kuttay and Adnan Shafi were the two known terrorists. Kuttay has been a long time suspect who killed BJP Sarpanch at Heerpora, Shopian and was suspected in the murder of TA Personnel at Behibagh, Kulgam in February this year. Shafi was also a known terrorist involved in the murder of non-local labourers at Wachi.

The timing of this encounter is very significant as it has occurred right after Operation Sindoor was called off and an agreement to a ceasefire was reached between India and Pakistan. India has kept its stance clear in front of the world that India doesn’t want war but will not tolerate terrorism and any further terrorist act by Pakistan will be considered as an ‘Act of War.’
