As the tensions between the two neighboring countries India and Pakistan are soaring high, the G7 group of nations had spoken in between and urged both nations to de-escalate the situation with immediate effect. The group of nations has shown its concern for civilian lives on both sides of the border and has said that a further surge in military operations will affect regional stability on both ends.

The foreign ministers of all seven countries in unison issued a statement condemning the horrific terrorist attack that took the lives of 26 innocent men in Pahalgam on 22nd April. They have also asked both nuclear-powered nations to show restraint in these tough times and not escalate the already hostile situation.

They said, “We strongly condemn the egregious terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and urge maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan. Further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability. We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides.”

The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, while the European Union is considered a non-enumerated member which participates in G7 activities. The whole union has shown its concern amidst the rising tensions in the Asian subcontinent and has assured that they are keeping a close eye on where the situation is headed.

“We call for immediate de-escalation and encourage both countries to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful outcome. We continue to monitor events closely and express our support for a swift and lasting diplomatic resolution,” they stated.

The conflict between the two nations escalated when India answered the terrorist attacks by destroying nine base camps of terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Since then, Pakistan has launched a wave of drone attacks and air strikes towards India targeting areas from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat most of which were repulsed by the Indian defense system. In turn, India has retaliated with air strikes on several military base camps in Pakistan.
