In the middle of the escalating national conflict between India and Pakistan, Hyderabad’s Karachi bakery has been targeted by the protestors. A popular bakery situated in Hyderabad for a long time, Karachi bakery has become a topic of conflict because of its name which is taken from the city Karachi of the Sindh province in Pakistan.

Karachi Bakery was founded by Khanchand Ramnani nearly 73 years ago in 1953 in Hyderabad. Ramnani migrated to India from Karachi post-partition in 1947. Their grandsons, Rajesh and Harish Ramnani who run the bakery today revealed that the bakery was founded in India but was named after Karachi by their grandfather because of his love for his previous city. They also said that the name doesn’t signify anything other than that and they are a completely Indian brand and support the nation.

The two brothers have also requested the Chief Minister of Telangana, A Revanth Reddy to help them through this crisis and prevent any change to the name of the bakery. They said, “We request the Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy and senior officers of administration to support to prevent any change in the name. People are putting up Tricolour in the outlets of the bakery across the city. Kindly support us as we are an Indian brand and not a Pakistani brand.”

The internet was polarised after the news and while some comments advised them to change their name many stood in support of the bakery and its name. Amidst the chaos in the nation, these protests have also been highlighted and people are functioning more on sentimental values.

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on tourists was an incident that scarred the whole country. A total of 26 people were killed mercilessly in the attack and the country mourned for them. So, in retaliation, the Indian armed forces carried out Operation Sindoor, attacking nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The tensions between both countries have escalated since then.
