Following the successful Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian Army in nine terror camps situated in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir there is a situation of unrest in Pakistan. The neighbouring nation has released a load of disinformation in order to shift the focus from the attacks and control the narrative. In their attempt to hold the narrative of the present situation, the state-affiliated accounts from Pakistan have put forward a barrage of outdated videos, images and old footage to support their claims.
These claims made by Pakistani accounts were soon debunked by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. They stated that these claims were nothing but a “desperate attempt to shift the focus from ground reality.” The ministry also said, “Pro-Pakistan social media handles and even influential political figures are deliberately spreading fake news, fabricating stories of miraculous military victories and heroic retaliation that simply do not exist.”
One of the major incidents highlighting the misinformation was by Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar. Tarar had reported that India had waived a white flag at the Line of Control and had accepted defeat at the Chora Post. All this was reported with the video of a white flag playing in the background.
The Pakistani Minister also confirmed that their military had brought down 5 Indian jets in retaliation. This news was later debunked by the PIB Fact Check account through a report that said, “The image is from an earlier incident involving an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 fighter jet that crashed in Barmer, Rajasthan, in September 2024.”
There were other claims made stating that Pakistan had destroyed an Indian Brigade Headquarters. This news was later declared fake by the defence sources and it was stated that it was a completely fabricated lie. There were also false claims by Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif who claimed that Indian soldiers were captured in recent air strikes. The Minister himself debunked the statement later, withdrawing from his claims.
Another misleading video was spread across the internet which claimed that the Pakistani Army had attacked the Srinagar Base. The Indian ministry, however, was quick to shoot down these claims as well and stated, “In reality, this footage was traced back to sectarian clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan that occurred in early 2024. The video had no connection to Kashmir or any recent airstrike.”
