After the huge success of the first edition of Kesari released in 2019, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ has finally released in the theatres today. With Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in the lead, the courtroom drama has already earned Rs. 3 crores in advance bookings, as per trade tracker Sacnilk.
Out of the Rs. 3 crores, around Rs. 1.84 crore worth of tickets were sold through regular advance bookings and the rest coming from block bookings. The movie is expected to pick up more momentum given its release on a Good Friday, a national holiday.
As far as the number of shows is concerned, the movie is set to play in 4,494 shows nationwide on its first day. It is being screened in key regions including Maharashtra with 1,029 shows, Gujarat with 722, Delhi with 439, Uttar Pradesh with 296, and Punjab with 218.
The audience is pouring in massive accolades to the intense courtroom drama that followed the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It tells the real-life story of C. Sankaran Nair a brave Indian lawyer who took on the British Empire in court.

Helmed by director Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is based on the book ‘The Case That Shook the Empire’ by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. Akshay Kumar in the lead is playing C. Sankaran Nair, R. Madhavan is portraying on the role of Neville McKinley, the British lawyer defending the Crown. Ananya Panday is playing a key role as lawyer Dilreet Gill, who supports the fight against injustice alongside Nair.
