Former India Captain MS Dhoni has created an IPL record of winning Player of the Match (POTM) at the age of 43 years and 280 days during his match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He broke an 11-year-old record in the process, surpassing Pravin Tambe to take the spot of the oldest player to receive the award.
It was a second victory for CSK in the tournament after facing a consecutive defeat for five matches. Dhoni and Shivam Dube stitched an unbroken 57-run stand to help the visitors chase down 167 with three balls to spare at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The now-record holder, Dhoni, scored 26 runs off just 11 balls before taking his team to 5-wicket victory against its opponent.
Leading as the captain in place of the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, the 43-year-old Dhoni walked in at No. 7 and hit four fours and a six. The master finisher silenced critics and fans alike proving his competency when it matters the most.
