Foxconn, the leading iPhone manufacturer, is in discussion with the Uttar Pradesh government to establish a 300-acre electronics manufacturing unit near Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida. This will the first facility of the company in North India and is positioned to become one of Foxconn’s largest manufacturing units globally.
The Taiwanese multinational is already awaiting approval for its joint venture with HCL for an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility. The UP government had made the investment pitch to Foxconn for coming up with its individual facility at the time of the final land allocation for the HCL-Foxconn chip joint venture Vama Sundari.
The contract manufacturer already has an upcoming facility in Bengaluru which is set to become the company’s second-largest globally. However, it is still unclear what specific products will be manufactured in Uttar Pradesh, as discussions with the state government are ongoing.
Foxconn currently operates in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, and is planning to wind down its operations in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
