SGML Eye Hospital marks 2nd Anniversary with over 1,000 Eye surgeries; honors hospital staff and NRI donors at a Musical Event in Madhya Pradesh

SGML Eye Hospital marked its second anniversary with a grand celebration on the evening of January 30, 2025. The event, held in Hasampura near Ujjain, brought together more than four hundred attendees, including local elected officials, dignitaries, and guests from around the world, including the USA and UK.

Inaugurated on January 30, 2023, SGML Eye Hospital opened to address the disparities in eye care services in rural India. The hospital’s mission is to provide accessible, high-quality, and equitable eye care to underserved communities in rural areas, where basic healthcare needs are often challenging to meet. Over the past two years, SGML has successfully performed over 1,000 eye surgeries and offered hundreds of outpatient consultations, often at reduced or no cost for those who cannot afford treatment.

The anniversary event featured a musical program with devotional, motivational, and patriotic songs, performed by Zee TV & Star One Antakshari fame Jwalant Sharma and Dr. Tushar Patel, who also served as the event’s host. The celebration included a recognition ceremony where over twenty hospital staff, including four physicians, were honored for their dedication to the cause. In addition, more than 25 NRI guests recognized for their contributions, with shawls and blessings from Swami Anandjeevan Das, founder trustee of SGML Eye Hospital.

Dr. Shekhar Mankad, Medical Director of SGML Eye Hospital, spoke about the hospital’s success, noting the significant support from the local community and NRI donors. He also shared plans for the next phase of expansion, which will include the introduction of retina care services to benefit countless people in the Ujjain district.

Dr. Deepak Pippal, Regional Health Administrator from Ujjain Sambhag, expressed his full support for SGML Eye Hospital, commending the hospital staff and Swami Anandjeevan Das for their relentless efforts. Dr. Taran Taran Khalsa also highlighted the importance of the hospital’s mission in a region prone to blindness due to a lack of education and resources.

Swami Harinandan and Swami Anandjeevan Das expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the supporters who traveled from abroad to contribute to the mission of preventing blindness in

Ujjain. Dr. Alpana Bhatt also extended her appreciation for the outstanding work done by the hospital and its supporters.

The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the hospital’s commitment to improving eye care access in the region and continuing its important work for the underserved population.
