The University of Minnesota, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Anant Maringanti as Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC). ICGC is a campus-wide center at the University of Minnesota that seeks to foster an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural community of faculty and students committed to supporting and advancing research, education, and collaborative initiatives related to global change, with a focus on the Global South.
Dr. Maringanti is a geographer with a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. His research and teaching interests center on questions of urbanization and globalization from the South Asian vantage point. He is currently the Co-founder and Executive Director of Hyderabad Urban Lab, a multi-disciplinary research center. He is widely published in national and international academic journals on social movements, politics of development, and urbanization.
Dr. Maringanti brings extensive experience in interdisciplinary research and urban intervention initiatives, and a strong commitment to social justice in the global south. It is especially meaningful that he is also a graduate of the University of Minnesota and an alumnus of the ICGC Scholars program. He will start in the position later this spring.
Dr. Karen Brown, the current Director of ICGC will stay on to assist with the transition and the University of Minnesota will honor her long history with ICGC this spring.
