Manoj Bajpayee’s film The Fable has made history by becoming the first Indian film to win the Best Film award at the 38th Leeds International Film Festival in the UK. This accolade was awarded during the Constellation Feature Film Competition, which celebrates innovative cinema from around the globe.
Directed by Raam Reddy, The Fable is a lyrical homage to timeless tales, intertwining themes of colonialism and labor relations through magical realism. The jury praised its ability to resonate deeply with audiences, stating that no other film was as fitting for the Grand Prize as this “inventive, entrancing” narrative about stories carried by stars.
In The Fable, Bajpayee plays Dev, who grapples with mysterious fires affecting his fruit orchards in the Indian Himalayas. As he confronts these challenges, he uncovers profound truths about himself and his family. The film also features talented co-stars like Priyanka Bose and Deepak Dobriyal, enhancing its rich storytelling.
Bajpayee expressed immense pride in this achievement, highlighting the collaborative effort involved in bringing the film to life.
