Jaishankar inaugurates Brisbane consulate on visit to Australia and Singapore

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has embarked on a significant diplomatic tour of Australia and Singapore from November 3 to 8, 2024. His visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and engage in key discussions with leaders from both nations.

In Australia, Jaishankar will co-chair the 15th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue (FMFD) with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra. This dialogue is crucial for enhancing the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on regional security and economic cooperation.

Jaishankar is also set to deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of the 2nd Raisina Down Under conference at the Australian Parliament House, emphasizing India’s growing role on the global stage.

During the visit, he inaugurated India’s fourth consulate in Brisbane, further solidifying diplomatic presence and support for the Indian diaspora. Jaishankar’s itinerary includes meetings with Australian leaders, parliamentarians, and representatives from various sectors, including business and academia.

Following his engagements in Australia, Jaishankar will travel to Singapore on November 8 to participate in the 8th Roundtable of ASEAN-India Network of Think Tanks. He will meet with Singaporean leadership to review and enhance the close partnership between India and Singapore, which has been pivotal in regional cooperation.

Jaishankar’s visit reflects India’s commitment to fostering international relationships and its desire to grow alongside global partners. This tour comes at a time when India is actively seeking to expand its influence in the Indo-Pacific region, reinforcing its strategic partnerships amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
