Singapore’s Indian community celebrates 78th Indian Independence Day, lauds Vinesh

On August 15, 2024, the Indian diaspora in Singapore came together to celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day, marking a significant occasion filled with patriotism and cultural pride. The event, held at the High Commission of India, saw participation from approximately 1,100 members of the Indian community, showcasing their enduring connection to their homeland.

The celebrations commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the Indian national flag by High Commissioner Dr. Shilpak Ambule at 8:30 AM. This moment was accompanied by the singing of the national anthem, creating an atmosphere of unity and reverence among attendees. Following the flag hoisting, Dr. Ambule read the President of India, Droupadi Murmu’s message, which emphasized the importance of independence and the contributions of Indians in various fields.

The event featured vibrant cultural performances by students from local Indian schools, who presented a series of patriotic songs and traditional dances. These performances not only entertained the audience but also served to instill a sense of pride in Indian heritage among the younger generation. The students’ enthusiasm and talent were evident, as they celebrated their roots through art and music.

Attendees were treated to a feast of traditional Indian delicacies, further enhancing the celebratory spirit of the day. The spread included a variety of dishes that highlighted the rich culinary diversity of India, allowing the diaspora to indulge in flavors reminiscent of home.
