In a dramatic move on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal moved a fresh application seeking direction to jail authorities to administer insulin and allow him to consult with doctors through video conferencing daily for 15 minutes for his acute diabetes and fluctuating blood sugar levels.

The plea also stated that the Delhi Chief Minister’s wife Sunita Kejriwal should also be allowed to join the consultation with Dr Ravichandra Rao, through video conference. The plea further stated that from February 1 this year under careful medical supervision, Kejriwal was able to start the ‘Insulin Reversal Programme’ and the administration of insulin was discontinued. The strict medical supervision of a diabetes expert helped in effectively regulating glucose levels. The medicines, food and exercises would be titrated [continuously measured and adjusted] daily using a continuous glucose monitoring sensor in which blood sugars were monitored closely.

Due the such daily medical and dietary interventions and a tailor-made daily exercise

intervention- the applicant was successfully removed from exogenous insulin and switched to oral medication while maintaining optimal glucose levels during the program, stated the plea.

Due to his arrest on March 21, the applicant was incapacitated and was unable to follow the said Insulin Reversal Programme, stated the plea. It is shocking and also alarming that from the date of his arrest i.e. March 21, the applicant has not been administered insulin to control his sugar levels. He has neither been able to follow the Insulin Reversal Programme nor being administered insulin to control his blood sugar levels, stated the plea.

While being in judicial custody, the applicant was seen by a doctor who is not even a diabetologist, and therefore, despite repeated requests by the applicant a basic administration of insulin was also not provided, the plea alleged.

Meanwhile, the Rouse Avenue court on Friday granted time to the counsel for Arvind Kejriwal to file rejoinder on the reply of Enforcement Directorate (ED). Senior advocate appearing for Kejriwal said that they could not take instructions as he has been arrested by the ED. The agency has already filed a reply on Kejriwal’s plea seeking supply of deficient documents filed along with the Complaint.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Divya Malhotra, after hearing the submissions of senior advocate Ramesh Gupta and ASG S V Raju, granted time to file rejoinder and listed the matter on May 4.

Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta appeared for Kejriwal and submitted that they could not get instructions due to the arrest of Kejriwal. Sr. Advocate Gupta submitted that Kejriwal has 30 litigation cases all over the country. But we are not able to get the legal interview because of intervention by the ED. The agency has no other business than opposing applications moved by Kejriwal.

After hearing the submissions, the Court listed the matter for filing of rejoinder on May 4.

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Gopal Rai on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that a Chief Minister (Arvind Kejriwal) who worked for the public was put in jail in the middle of elections.

“Every person who elected Arvind Kejriwal as the CM is angry. We hold ‘Sankalp Sabha’ in 200 places in the city. Using the power of their vote on 25 May, the people of Delhi will give an answer, and bring Arvind Kejriwal out of jail.” he said.

He further stated that the people of Delhi will end this dictatorship by the BJP by exercising their right to vote. The answer will be given on May 25.

Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved in Delhi High Court seeking direction to grant extraordinary interim bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in all the criminal cases. The plea stated that to fulfil the responsibilities of the Chief Minister of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, the physical presence of Arvind Kejriwal is required in his office and home “24 Hours X 7 days a week” to take quick decisions for the welfare of the public at large.

The trial court, on April 15, extended the judicial custody of Arvind Kejriwal till April 23. The ED alleged that the Aam Adami Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged liquor scam.
