Four prominent Indian and Indian-American women were honored for their achievements and contributions to society on International Women’s Day, March 8.
Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad, Neena Singh, Dr Indu Lew and Megha Desai were the honorees at the 6th edition of the International Women’s Day commemoration event hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York and the Federation of Indian Associations.
According to a release by FIA, Gaekwad is a visionary committed to education and community empowerment through her philanthropic work. Singh is the first Indian and Sikh woman Mayor in New Jersey, known for her dedication to mental wellness and community engagement. Lew rose has demonstrated exceptional leadership in health care, by being clinical pharmacist to becoming the Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff at RWJ Barnabas Health. Desai is the president of the Desai Foundation, whose work focuses on improving health, livelihood in rural India, the release further said.
Consul General Mr Binaya Pradhan shared insights on the achievements of Indian Women and the Government’s commitment to empowering them and India’s women-led development. The event “recognized the achievements of four extraordinary women, celebrating their significant contributions across various fields and reinforcing a commitment to empowerment and recognition”.
The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) is one of the oldest and largest non-profit grass-roots umbrella organizations. Through its over five decades of deep-rooted grass-root community engagement and enhancement initiatives, FIA has grown in tandem with the Indian diaspora while continuing to promote, safeguard, and nurture the values and culture that are vital to the Indian American community.
