LIVE Election Results: BJP wins hearts in the heartland and a consolation win for Congress

The votes for the legislative assemblies of four states — Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana — will be counted amid tight security arrangements on Sunday, in the final stretch of the battle billed as the semifinal before the mega final in 2024. However, the counting of votes in Mizoram, which also went to polls along with four other states last month, has been pushed back to December 4, Monday, the Election Commission (EC) informed earlier.

6 pm IST: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly polls and said the results are showing that people have faith only in the politics of ‘development and good governance’ and on the BJP.

6 pm IST: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday conceded the party’s defeat in the Assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, but he said that the party’s battle of ideology would continue.

— 8: 02 am: The counting of votes for 199 out of 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan began on Sunday morning after days of intense campaigning by major political parties including the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

— 8 am: As the clock ticks down to the counting of votes for four states, Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra on Sunday exuded confidence in his party forming the government in the state with a full majority.

— With less than 12 hours to the counting day, BJP leader and the party’s candidate from the Tijara Assembly constituency of Rajasthan, Baba Balak Nath, on Saturday lashed out at the Congress saying the saffron party would form the government and rid the state of the incumbent.

— As the countdown began for the Assembly poll results in four states, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday claimed that the people will vote in favour of the Opposition INDIA bloc and the outcome will give the strength and momentum to the alliance as it bids to unseat the BJP-led NDA from the Centre in the Lok Sabha elections next year.

— As the counting of votes for the Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections will commence in all 90 assembly constituencies across the state on December 3 at 8:00 AM, all arrangements have been made by the Election Commission of India.

The counting of votes of five assembly constituencies from Warangal and Hanamkonda districts namely, Warangal East, West, Narsampet, Wardhannapet and Parkala will be held at Enumamula Agricultural Market. As per the state election department, section 144 has been imposed at the premises of counting centres.

Mizoram

— All arrangements and preparations for the counting of votes in Mizoram on December 4 have been completed, Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Nazuk Kumar said.
