St Mary’s Orthodox Church hosted the 5th Annual India Festival on October 14th, which was a grand success. There was a huge turnout of 1000 people. The festival had mouth-watering delicious food, a volleyball tournament, and the famous music band from Atlanta – ACHAAR performing live. There were booths selling merchandise. Through this festival, around $20, 500 was raised, towards the construction of Sunday School building.
The annual St Mary’s Atlanta India Festival, began in September 2016 as an outreach effort to share the culture and traditions. St. Mary’s is preparing for the construction of a multi-purpose auditorium on the current property. This facility will be a valuable addition to the church, accommodating youth activities and providing additional Sunday school classrooms. According to a statement from the church, “This project is a testament to our commitment to nurturing the faith of our younger generations and ensuring that our church remains a vibrant and welcoming place for all. To commemorate our 10th anniversary celebrations, St. Mary’s has generously donated a home to a deserving family in Thodupuzha, Kerala, reflecting our commitment to serving those in need, not only in our community but also around the world.”
St. Mary’s proudly counts over 80 families in their congregation, including many young families with young children. The church has served as a voting center for local and national elections, hosted neighborhood summer camps and youth soccer camps, organized spiritual organizations for youth and adults, held family retreats, family nights, and celebrated our annual India festival, all of which have expanded the spiritual and social footprints.
