An International Hindi Conference is being planned by the Consulate General of India, New York for two days, on October 20 and 21, 2023. This special conference on Hindi will be organized by Hindi Sangam Foundation, a New Jersey-based non-profit organization founded in 2015 with the specific goal of encouraging and promoting the use of Hindi in US. New York University and many US-based community and cultural organizations are collaborating for the event.
Randhir Jaiswal, India’s Consul-General in New York, and Anil Joshi, vice president, Kendriya Hindi Shikshan Mandal are assigned as Advisors to the conference. Kendriya Hindi Shikshan Mandal is dedicated to the promotion of Hindi under the Government of India’s Ministry of Education.
For the successful conduct of the conference, Ashok Ojha, president, Hindi Sangam Foundation, and Suman Singh, the Indian Consulate’s head of Chancery in New York have been designated as Coordinators. An academic committee has been established to examine research papers for presentation at the conference, under the able leadership of Prof Gabriela Nik Ilieva of New York University.
New Jersey-based Yuva Hindi Sansthan’s Chairman, Upendra Chivukula, and Purnima Desai, head of two New York-based cultural organizations, Shikshayatan and Sriniketan Foundation, are important members of the organizing committee of this Hindi conference. Professionals and experts in Hindi from Europe, Asia, and the US are likely to participate in this prestigious conference.
Hindi Sangam Foundation is at the forefront of organizing International Hindi conferences in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, New York, and world-famous New York University, Columbia University, Rutgers, and GITAM, Visakhapatnam, India for spreading and encouraging the use of Hindi language by sharing research, success stories and overcoming challenges in teaching and learning Hindi across the globe.
The theme of the conference is, “Innovations in Hindi Instruction-Methodology, Technology and More,” focusing on the latest research in teaching the heritage language, Ojha highlighted. It aims to enhance the teaching of the Hindi language outside the Hindi belt in India and amongst the diaspora, by understanding wider questions and contributing towards teaching and learning in complex socio-linguistic contexts and emerging new environments.
The two-day conference is scheduled to host eight academic sessions or panel discussions on topics related to the theme of ‘Innovation in Hindi Instruction in the Diaspora,’ a pre-conference academic session, Kavi-Sammelan, and networking. Hindi Sangam Foundation will maintain a dedicated website for conference-related content, research papers, and schedule.
