The Indian Embassy in Dublin has issued a safety advisory alerting Indian citizen in Ireland to a recent surge in physical attacks against them, urging heightened caution especially in deserted areas and during odd hours. This warning follows a brutal racially motivated assault on July 19 in Tallaght, Dublin, where a middle-aged Indian man was violently attacked by a group of teenagers, stripped, and left bleeding for over an hour before help arrived. The attack has sparked outrage, widespread protests, and an online petition demanding justice, which has already garnered over 15,000 signatures.

The embassy has emphasized that incidents targeting Indians have been increasing lately, and it remains in contact with Irish authorities to address concerns related to community safety. It has provided emergency contact numbers for Indian nationals in Ireland, encouraging them to take reasonable personal security measures.

Indians form the largest non-European Union immigrant group in Ireland and are integral to the country’s IT and healthcare sectors. Despite their contributions, the recent violence, including multiple reported attacks on Indian students and workers, has generated fear and uncertainty among the community.

This incident in Dublin is part of a broader pattern of rising hate-related attacks on Indians abroad. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) data reveals a significant annual increase in such violent attacks, with 40 incidents reported overseas in 2024 alone, up from 28 in 2023 and just four in 2022. Countries with high numbers include Canada, Russia, the UK, and the US. Ireland has also reported several cases, even though fatalities there are rare.

The embassy’s advisory advises Indians to avoid empty or poorly lit places especially at night and remain vigilant. The Indian community in Ireland continues to call for stronger protective measures and swift justice for victims amid growing concerns about their safety.
