The newly released trailer of director Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has generated massive buzz online, with one reveal dominating conversations—Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in a double role, portraying both Lord Rama and Lord Parashurama. While eagle-eyed viewers first spotted the dual appearance in the trailer, the actor’s second role has now been confirmed, sending social media into overdrive.
The trailer, unveiled on Wednesday during the auspicious Brahma Muhurta, showcases Kapoor as Lord Rama alongside Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Packed with visually rich battle sequences, emotional moments and glimpses of key episodes from the epic, the film has been praised for its grand scale and cinematic ambition.
Much of the online excitement centres on Kapoor’s portrayal of Parashurama, the warrior-sage regarded as an earlier avatar of Lord Vishnu. Fans have described the casting as a masterstroke, with many predicting that the confrontation between Rama and Parashurama will be among the film’s standout sequences. Social media posts hailed the reveal as one of the trailer’s biggest surprises, with several users calling it a “goosebumps moment.”
Kapoor had earlier revealed that playing both characters required distinct body language and vocal modulation to reflect their contrasting temperaments. He also said he spent nearly a year preparing to understand the spirituality, motivations and emotional depth of the two avatars.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features an ensemble cast including Yash, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Ravie Dubey, Lara Dutta and Arun Govil. The mythological epic is slated for a theatrical release during Diwali 2026, with its second instalment expected to arrive in 2027. As anticipation builds, the trailer has strengthened expectations that the film could become one of Indian cinema’s biggest releases in recent years.
