During a telephonic conversation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated US President Joe Biden and took the opportunity to invite him and First Lady Dr Jill Biden to visit India at their earliest convenience.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden on Monday discussed common priorities and stated that both the leaders are committed to rule-based international order. It was their first telephonic conversation after Biden assumed office.
Modi posted on Twitter that he had spoken with Biden and discussed regional issues and shared priorities. He said: “President Biden and I are committed to a rules-based international order. We look forward to consolidating our strategic partnership to further peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.” Modi also stated that they had agreed to strengthen the cooperation against climate change.
According to a statement from the White House, Biden highlighted his desire to defend democratic institutions and norms across the world and noted that “a shared commitment to democratic values is the bedrock for the US-India relationship.” The statement also said that the two leaders agreed to work together to battle the Covid-19 pandemic, renew partnership on climate change, rebuild the global economy, and against global terrorism.
The White House said: “The leaders agreed to continuing close cooperation to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific, including support for freedom of navigation, territorial integrity, and a stronger regional architecture through the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue).” It further stated they resolved that “the rule of law and the democratic process must be upheld in Burma.”
Modi took this opportunity to invite President Biden and his First Lady Dr Jill Biden to visit India at their earliest convenience.
