As the top four of the Indian Premier League was confirmed a week earlier before the final match of the tournament was played, people assumed that the last matches would be a dull affair. But the recent matches have churned out different results than what was expected of them as most of the bottom seated teams have defeated the Top seated teams. This has made the race for finishing at the top 2 interesting and all the four top teams can have a chance to finish in top 2.
The top 4 of the IPL 2025 are – Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. All four teams currently have a chance of snatching a place in the Qualifier 1 as that would give them an added advantage allowing them an extra chance to reach the finals. Punjab will be playing against the Mumbai Indians and the winner of that match has a guaranteed spot in the top 2.
Here are the qualification scenarios for all the teams,
Mumbai Indians (16 pts, +1.292 NRR)
- If they win against PBKS they will definitely finish in the top two as their net run rate is better than that of GT.
- If they lose against PBKS they will not finish in top two as PBKS will then have 19 points and GT already have 18.
Punjab Kings (17 pts, +0.327 NRR)
- If they win against MI they will definitely finish in the top two as GT are stuck at 18 points and RCB can finish with only 19.
- If they lose against MI they will have to rely on RCB losing or not winning by a huge margin.
RCB (17 pts, +0.255 NRR)
- If they win against LSG they will definitely finish at the top two as GT are stuck at 18 points and PBKS can finish only at 19.
- If they lose against LSG then they would want PBKS to lose to MI and then hope that their own NRR should be superior than GT.
GT (18 pts, +0.254 NRR)
- Either MI or PBKS and RCB should lose their match in order to let GT finish in the top two.
