US President Joe Biden plans to sign an executive order to modernize the US immigration system on Tuesday, said the White House. The order was expected to be signed earlier but there have been delays in confirming a new Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security.
During a daily briefing on Friday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also said that nominee Alejandro Mayorkas would head a task force that aims to reunite migrant families who were separated at the US-Mexico border by Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
Psaki said: “On Tuesday, President Biden will deliver remarks and sign an executive order advancing his priority to modernize our immigration system.” She further said: “The task force will be led by the Secretary of Homeland Security once he is confirmed.”
As we have reported earlier, Biden promised to reverse several Trump policies.
