White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also hinted that Kamala Harris becoming the Vice President will lead to stronger India-US ties.
The White House on Thursday stated that President Joe Biden values the successful relationship that the United States shares with India and looks forward to continuing it. During a briefing, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said: “President Biden, who of course has visited India many times, respects and values the long, bipartisan, successful relationship between leaders in India and the United States. He looks forward to a continuation of that.”
Psaki also hinted that Kamala Harris becoming the Vice President will lead to stronger India-US ties. Psaki said: “Obviously, he [Biden] selected – and yesterday she [Harris] was sworn in – the first Indian-American to serve as Vice President, a historic moment for all of us in this country, but a further cementing of the importance of our relationship.” Harris is the first Indian American to serve as the US Vice President. Harris has her roots in Tamil Nadu, India.
Biden visited India in 2008, which is the year the US Congress approved the civil nuclear deal between the two nations. He pushed the deal through and had a significant role as the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The second time, Biden visited India in 2013 as the US Vice President and in 2014 he chaired a joint session of the US Congress.
On Wednesday, Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States and Kamala Harris as the 49th US Vice President.
