In a remarkable achievement for both tourism and international relations, Indian tourist arrivals in Singapore have officially crossed the one million mark as of October 2024. This milestone, reported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), comes two months earlier than in 2023, showcasing a robust recovery and growing interest among Indian travelers in exploring the Lion City.

The data reveals a significant 12% increase in visitors from India between January and October 2024 compared to the same period last year. This surge has positioned India as Singapore’s third-largest source market for tourism, following China and Indonesia.

Markus Tan, STB’s Regional Director for India and surrounding regions, expressed his excitement about this achievement. ” Welcoming our one-millionth Indian visitor two months earlier than in 2023 demonstrates Singapore’s enduring appeal as a premier short-haul destination for Indian travelers,” he stated. Tan highlighted that major metropolitan areas in India, such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, continue to be key markets, while efforts are underway to tap into emerging cities across the country.

The milestone was celebrated with great fanfare when Singapore Airlines flight SQ-421 from Mumbai landed at Changi Airport on October 31, 2024. The flight carried the millionth Indian visitor, marking a significant moment in Singapore’s tourism narrative. Sy Yen Chen, General Manager of Singapore Airlines for India, expressed pride in the airline’s role in facilitating travel between the two nations.

Several factors contribute to this surge in Indian visitors. Enhanced connectivity between major Indian cities and Singapore has played a pivotal role. With multiple airlines offering direct flights and competitive pricing, travel has become more accessible than ever. Additionally, Singapore’s reputation as a family-friendly destination with diverse attractions appeals strongly to Indian families looking for vacation options.

The STB remains committed to providing engaging experiences that resonate with Indian tourists’ aspirations.
