Seasoned diplomat Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi has been appointed as India’s new ambassador to Turkiye, filling a vacancy that arose after the death of Virander Paul in June. Pardeshi, a member of the 1991 batch of the Indian Foreign Service, is currently serving as Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, where he has been instrumental in enhancing consular services and supporting Indians abroad.

Pardeshi’s extensive diplomatic career spans over three decades, including significant roles as India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand and Ambassador to Mexico. His tenure in Mexico saw a remarkable 75% increase in bilateral trade, highlighting his capability in fostering international relations. Recently, he played a crucial role in the successful hosting of the G20 Summit, where he helped bridge divisions among member nations regarding the Ukraine conflict.

Turkiye has emerged as a key player in regional geopolitics, particularly in efforts to resolve conflicts in the Middle East and facilitating grain exports from Ukraine. As ambassador, Pardeshi will navigate the complexities of India-Turkiye relations, which have seen fluctuations but also growth in trade and tourism.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced that Pardeshi is expected to assume his new role shortly, bringing his wealth of experience and diplomatic acumen to this pivotal position.
